Summer Stories: The Beauty of Outdoor Portraits in the Sunshine
We are halfway through summer and I have already had the pleasure to photograph so many beautiful families in beautiful settings in Hertfordshire.
One thing I adore about outdoor photoshoots is how relaxed they feel. Taking a walk through the fields, the smell of the grass, sitting under a tree, a gentle fresh breeze and the warmth of the sun on skin.
All winter I long for these sessions again. In my 10 years of experience of photographing families in Stevenage & the surrounding areas I have learnt that children having the ability to play and explore during a session makes for much better portraits. If the kids are having fun and are happy this is sure to come across in your portraits.
I hold sessions at 3 times of day. Early morning before the sun rises too high in the sky usually between 9-9.30am. Evening around 4.30-5ish in well shaded areas so the sun is not too harsh. Later evening (golden hour) around 5.30-6.30 so the sun is low in the sky and has the most beautiful warm tones. The session displayed in this post was a later evening session. Direct sunlight can be a scary light to work with, but it has become my favourite over the last few years. If you would like your family captured naturally in a beautiful setting don’t hesitate to contact me!
